- Make: television debuted today online and on public television (broadcast / cable tv). The series encourages everyone to invent, revent, recycle, upcycle, and act up. Based on the popular Make magazine, each half-hour episode hopes to inspire viewers to think, create, and, well, make. Each episode can be viewed or downloaded DRM-free, in HD on makezine.tv - the show is also available on Vimeo, YouTube, blip.tv and iTunes… and now here on LegalTorrents!
- K Scott leads the discussion as we look back at 2008, and speculate wildly on what 2009 has to offer. Looking back at 2008: Google Chrome, Kevin’s new iPhone, Kevin’s Firefox extension addiction, Hulu, IE8 - better than expected, but still a ways to go, ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight 2, Oslo, Azure, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, ADO.NET Data Services, REST is finally accepted in the .NET world, The Seinfeld / Gates ads, OpenID, Netbooks (Oragami at last?), Twitter’s recovery, Overhyped stuff (Surface, cloud computing, multi-core madness), Functional programming, DI/IOC hitting the Microsoft mainstream, [sidebar - the tradeoff between DI benefits vs. Silverlight XAP size], StackOverflow, [sidebar - frustration with Microsoft forums]. Looking forward at 2009: Windows 7, Office 14, Project Pink? (Zune on Windows Mobile), [sidebar - frustrations Zune], WPF in Visual Studio, [sidebar - is there a correlation between unmanaged code and lame Microsoft products?]

- “A rainbow wall of prettiness - like any piece of good art, it’ll capture you for that brief, but striking moment” - sputnikmusic “The music sweeps from delicately-textured ambience to shattering metallic riffage and back again in the blink of an eye, held together and underpinned by driving rhythms and delicious melodies” - OzProg. Two fitting introductions to sleepmakeswaves first full EP, ‘In Today Already Walks Tomorrow’, following their earlier demo EP released on Lost Children. 2009 looks to be another promising year for sleepmakeswaves, an upcoming split album this Spring with fellow Aussies, the jazzically brilliant, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, writing for a future full-length of their own, hopefully a few more shows to cement their bright future, and all starting with this Lost Children release of their EP to spread the word further. There are still a few digipack CDs of ‘In Today Already Walks Tomorrow’ available to purchase for those of you who would like the physical copy to own, with it’s delicious artwork and full quality sounds. Contact sleepmakeswaves directly through their myspace or send an email to sleepmakeswaves@gmail.com for further details and they are available for shipping worldwide.
A collection of 9 live performances by Hungry Lucy, recorded during the Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast.
Hungry Lucy’s sound has been described as a combination of Tori Amos and Depeche Mode with Christa Belle’s enchanting vocals floating atop War-N Harrison’s detailed musical arrangements. While touching the genres of trip-hop, darkwave, pop, folk, new age, and electronica, Hungry Lucy never quite fits squarely into any single category. While much of the music is instantly accessible, their unique sound and approach to everything they do makes Hungry Lucy a standout act.
- Joe is a reporter who is looking for his big break and he gets it when he takes over George Gorman’s sports column. Marty is a hood who would fix any sporting event he could and Joe keeps the pressure of the paper on him. His wife Maxine, however, wants only the finer things in life and when Joe is on the road, she becomes Marty’s Gal. That and the money that she owes Marty ends Joe’s career as a New York Register columnist and starts his new career as a drunk. But Connie, who has had a crush on Joe for years, will try to make him the reporter he once was.
- This is the second half of our discussion with Miguel de Icaza about Mono, Moonlight, open source, and other fun stuff. Topics:
- Creative Commons and Arts Engine have teamed up to create a video explaining how CC has helped filmmakers in the Media that Matters film festival. In this short produced by Intelligent Television, you can hear from established film makers on why CC is a crucial part of their work flow and perspective on creating new media.
- Badman of Brisco (1951). This old classic is very predictabile, and a bit corney. However, it has much action in it; and still enjoyable to watch. Don’t forget to tell your friends about VintageNewscast.com
- Hard Decision (1961). A hardened criminal plots to rescue his younger brother from hanging by abducting Deputy Clay McCord and holding him as a hostage to exchange for his sibling’s release.
- Day of the Hunter (1960). Cass Callicot is one of the original frontiersman who’s exploits have been written about in dime store novels and newspapers. He considers himself to be the best with a rifle and he comes to Northfork to prove that against Lucas. However Lucas doesn’t want any part of a shooting match between him and Cass. He won’t take no for an answer and he attempts to goad Lucas into a contest. When all else fails Cass uses Mark as a pawn in his game.
